While we’ve seen John Vachon’s photos here before, they were taken in 1942 when he was shooting for the Farm Security Administration. Thirty years later, he shot a series of photos for the EPA’s Documerica project in and around San Juan, Puerto Rico, and among them is this first shot of rush hour traffic on Route 2 in Bayamon.

Not very sharp the further back you go, but still full of distinctive shapes. What do you see?
Vachon didn’t seem to take any other street scene shots in that series, but he did take this one beach scene shot that we thought worth including here.

UPDATE (1.March 2012): As we see from the below ad, uploaded to Flickr by our friend Alden Jewell, Porsche actually encouraged beach driving for 914s. We haven’t found any evidence that they encouraged towing, though…
